Beginner Walkthrough
Welcome, Mayor. Go-Go Town! drops you into a fixer-upper valley with more potential than pavement. This walkthrough takes you from the tutorial mailbox through your first rank star, first Townie, and first EGO tech purchase — roughly the first two to three in-game days. You will juggle tourists (visitors who spend money), Townies (permanent residents who work and pay rent), Coins (gold construction currency), and EGO (blue research currency). Take your time: the game rewards tidy logistics more than speed-running decorations.
Day 1: Tutorial and first income
Complete the mailbox tutorial and follow quest markers on your phone (TAB). Your first goal is a functional General Store or equivalent starter shop — tourists buy goods and leave Coins. Press F near shelves to stock items manually until you hire staff.
Lay basic roads connecting the shop, bus stop or arrival point, and housing plots. Tourists follow paths; broken or missing roads reduce foot traffic. Pick up visible trash when you pass it — litter lowers satisfaction until Garbirds or maintenance workers handle cleanup.
Do not spend EGO immediately. Finish rank challenge hints first; they teach mechanics that unlock better income than early cosmetic packs.
- Stock starter shop shelves (F to interact)
- Complete mailbox and phone quests
- Connect roads from arrival to shop district
- Pick up trash or note Garbird locations
Day 2: Workers and first Townie
Hire a shop worker when the quest or EGO pack allows — workers keep shelves stocked while you expand. To convert a tourist into a Townie, provide housing (place a residential building), a job (shop or processor), and complete any visitor-specific quest steps shown on the phone.
Townies pay rent and work consistently, forming the backbone of mid-game automation. One employed Townie is worth more than three unhappy tourists wandering without purchases.
Begin harvesting basic resources (wood, forage) manually if quests require processed goods. You will automate these later with resource zones.
Day 3: Rank star and first EGO spend
Rank challenges appear on the phone and EGO tree — they might require a population threshold, shop revenue, or cleanliness score. Hitting your first star unlocks higher EGO tiers and expansion options.
Spend your first EGO on tech that reduces manual labor: storage upgrades, worker slots, or the path toward Tier 3 couriers. Avoid cosmetic-only packs until couriers or resource zones are in sight.
Open the EGO tree and read pack descriptions carefully; some packs are prerequisites for couriers and land unlocks later.
| Resource | Color | Primary use |
|---|---|---|
| Coins | Gold | Buildings, stock, land unlocks |
| EGO | Blue | Tech packs, tier progression |
| Materials | Various | Crafting, exports, shop goods |
Common beginner mistakes
Understocked shops: tourists leave without spending if shelves are empty. Check shops after every expansion push.
EGO hoarding: unspent EGO does not help you. If a must-buy pack is available and you meet rank requirements, purchase it.
Ignoring trash: satisfaction drops silently. Walk your main street daily or deploy Garbirds near food vendors.
Overbuilding housing before jobs: unemployed Townies do not generate revenue. Balance homes with workplaces.
What to do next
After your first star, read how to automate and tier 0–3 EGO pages. Unlock couriers at Tier 3 as your north-star goal — they eliminate most backpack hauling.
If playing co-op, set Vice-Mayor permissions before inviting friends so guest players cannot spend shared EGO on accidental purchases.
