Mayor rank stars gate EGO tiers, land unlocks, and story beats. Rank challenges appear on your phone and EGO tree with specific targets: population counts, shop revenue, cleanliness, building counts, or tourist happiness. Failing to progress stars is the hidden reason many players cannot buy Tier 4+ packs despite hoarding EGO. This guide explains challenge types and efficient completion order.
Reading challenge UI
Open TAB phone → rank or EGO section. Each star shows incomplete criteria with progress bars. Hover or select for hints (e.g., "employ 5 Townies", "reach 500 daily revenue").
Some challenges unlock sequentially — finish star 2 before star 3 requirements appear in full.
Common requirement types
Population: house + job tourists converted to Townies. Revenue: stocked shops on main street. Cleanliness: trash cleared, Garbirds or maintenance active. Tourism: decorations or landmarks placed.
