EA Legacy Saves (ggt_legacy)
Creative director Cheryl Vance confirmed a one-time break: Early Access saves do not carry forward into version 1.0 because Prideful Sloth reworked fundamental systems — Tech Tree, economy, Export, tutorials, and rank flow. Your EA progress is not deleted. Steam hosts a dedicated legacy game version called ggt_legacy where you can reopen old towns anytime. New 1.0 saves are forward-compatible; treat them as the long-term home for Treasure Hunting, Creative Mode, and Switch cross-progression planning.
Why saves split
The team attempted migration but chose feature quality over backward compatibility. Version 1.0 packs Creative Mode, Treasure Hunting, Town Hall, revamped Tech Tree rebuy, tourism personalities, and coin-based economy changes that do not map cleanly onto 2024–2025 EA data.
This is explicitly a one-off transition — future patches after 1.0 target save preservation.
How to open ggt_legacy
In Steam: Library → Go-Go Town! → Properties → Betas or Installed versions (wording varies by Steam client) → select ggt_legacy or the legacy branch label Prideful Sloth provides.
Steam Community discussions host step-by-step screenshots if menus shift — search "ggt_legacy" on the official hub.
Launch legacy to continue exports, old Tech Tree layouts, and pre-1.0 rank progress. Launch default branch for new 1.0 features.
- Backup both branches via Steam Cloud before switching
- Name Town Profiles in 1.0 to avoid confusing saves
- Read updates/version-1-0 before expecting EA mechanics
What to do as a returning mayor
Option A: Finish sentimental EA towns in ggt_legacy for nostalgia or screenshots.
Option B: Start a fresh 1.0 campaign for Treasure Hunting, Town Rank tiers, and Switch portability.
Option C: Run both — legacy for old layouts, 1.0 for current wiki meta and co-op with friends on the new branch.
Switch and Steam Deck
Legacy access is primarily documented for Steam PC. Console builds launched at 1.0 — Switch players typically begin on the retail version without EA history unless cloud saves existed on PC.
Steam Deck uses the same branch picker as desktop — controls/steam-deck for performance tips on either version.
